Occupy for a Living Wage
TODAY | 5.29 | 11:30 AM | NYS Capitol Building

Occupy Albany stands in solidarity with minimum wage workers everywhere demanding, as living people, a living wage. Join us when we take the million dollar staircase and make it clear to State Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos that the current minimum wage is insufficient for a dignified and sustainable living, shaming him for his prevention of a modest increase in the current minimum wage as well as for his complete failure to support a genuine living wage.

Skelos' block of a living wage comes despite an overwhelming support rate of 78% from the public.

Meet at 11:30am outside the State Street entrance to the NYS Capitol Building and help us will demonstrate to Dean Skelos how The People truly feel about his desire to block a marginal increase in the current minimum wage, and his negligence towards the desires and needs of his constituency. A march to the Million Dollar Staircase will be followed by a press conference, rally, and speak-out where we will send the clear message: "Shame on you Senator Skelos - New Yorkers Need a Living Wage!"

Speaker Kevin McCashion will appear for an educational presentation on the Council on Foreign Relations. Join us to learn the history of the C.F.R. and how they have had undue influence in our government and economic system.

As part of OA Civil Liberties Initiative's continued pursuit of 'Crossreach', this presentation is being co-hosted by the Occupy Albany Civil Liberties Initiative and the Albany Tea Party.

The meeting will be held at 472 Madison Ave.

Saturday | June 9 | Tale of Two Cities March
Occupy Albany's Housing Action working group is holding a march to highlight the major discrepancy between the rich and poor in Albany, an extremely segregated city, and the fact that the establishment is not acknowledging their capacity to fix the urban blight.

Feeder marches from Howe Library in the South End and the Arbor Hill Library will join together to meet uptown community members at the Pine Hills Library.  More details to be announced.
